On June 5, 2026, FAWOI joined the global community in commemorating World Environment Day. This is one of the United Nations’ most important annual milestones for raising awareness and driving action on pressing environmental challenges.
This year’s theme, “Inspired By Nature, For Climate, For Our Future,” speaks directly to what FAWOI believes and champions: nature is more than a backdrop to human life. It is the foundation of our survival, our resilience, and our future. One key action stood out in our activities aimed at protecting and restoring our natural ecosystems. This meant investing in a healthier planet and a more equitable tomorrow for every community, especially those most vulnerable to climate impacts.

A GATHERING FOR THE PLANET
The celebration, organised by Cameroon’s Ministry of Environment, Nature Protection and Sustainable Development (MINEPDED), brought together more than 100 participants – a vibrant coalition of environmental organisations, community groups, youth leaders, schools, and climate advocates. Organisations including ASCOA, The Light, Meg Wah, Back2Eden, CENEC, ProClimate, WOMEV, CEDAR-COM, VoNat, CamESS, Eco Agric, GECCM, Nature’s Breathe, Greening Forward, GEE, People EarthWise, Man and Nature (ManNa), FEDEV, and AJESH came together with a shared commitment: to protect the environment and accelerate climate action in our communities and beyond.
WHAT THE DAY AIMED TO ACHIEVE
The objectives of this year’s celebration aligned deeply with FAWOI’s own mission and strategic priorities:
- Raising awareness on environmental protection and climate action
- Promoting nature-based solutions to environmental challenges
- Encouraging sustainable practices at community level
- Strengthening collaboration among environmental stakeholders
- Inspiring citizens, especially young people, to become active environmental stewards
- Advocating for the conservation and restoration of ecosystems for a resilient future.
OUR COMMITMENT GOES BEYOND ONE DAY
For FAWOI, World Environment Day is a call to sustained, intentional action. We work year-round with families, women, communities, and partners to advance nature-based livelihoods, environmental education, and climate-resilient practices that protect both people and planet.
As we reflect on the spirit of this day, we renew our commitment to the communities we serve and to the ecosystems that sustain us all.
Every action counts and voice matters, and together, we can protect our environment, combat climate change, and build a greener, healthier, and more sustainable future for Cameroon and for the world.
Happy World Environment Day 2026
